Heather Maitland moved to Raymont from Rockhampton at the ripe age of 16 in 2021 to pursue a career in dance. The then-year 12 student knew that finding a place would be challenging due to her age and the fact that she was not completing a university degree. Heather completed her last year at a prestigious dance school that focused on improving her skills with like-minded students.
This year, Heather completed a certificate in ballet while applying to different schools worldwide in the hope that she could learn from the best. In June, Heather found out that she had been successful in her application at the Alonzo King Lines Ballet School in San Francisco and received a part-scholarship. She will embark on a 2-year intensive training program, beginning in the middle of September.
Heather talks about her time at Raymont, which gave her the life skills to now move across the world. “Raymont made me grow and mature in the year and a half that I was there in a way that I don’t think I could have if I stayed living at home. It has made me more confident about moving away as I was surrounded by a good group of friends who had my back and pulled me into line when I needed it. I will miss all the people I met at the college, but I know we will keep in touch no matter what.”
Heather is a talented student, and we will miss her face around the college. We wish you the very best, Heather!
